Hi All
At last I have now arrived at the next step in the Vectric learning curve.
Quite a journey too, so what comes next? Double sided carving was my challenge choice,
I struddied the tutorials over and over and followed them on my screen as well. Once I thought I could do it, I created a workpiece of 12 in by 8 in and .75 thick.
Next step was to create an oval 5 in high by 3 in wide.
To see what happens when the piece is turned over, by clicking on the icon and repeating the oval there and centering tham both, As I clicked form one to the other they were exactkly the same one on top of the other in either direction.
So you can see in the photos that I put a little 3d clipart in the top of the lid, This was the only thng on that side.
I then tunred it over and created all the toolpaths to finish the job with the other parts. .All the ovals ere copied andpasted rom the original, to make sure they were the same size exactly.
All seemed to go well during the cutting but though the base and the midle sections fitted great and the lid as well, except that the clipart was now well off from where i thought it shoud be.
OK I realise that the rebate in the middle section should have been on the inside so the lid would fit, but that was my fault, so ignore it.
But where have I gone so wrong?
My spoil board was skimmed to make sure it wa parallel with both the gantry OUT and BACK and ACROSS in both directions, I did the skimming using the pendant (Piranha FX) so the workpieces are sitting exactly in the bottom left right angle corner and clamped there. Flipped in the right direction, (Checked and cleaned the corner) and reclamped.
Then touch z to make sure and then all except the final lid cutout done first,
So I now see that that final lid cut has moved a bit on the Y direction,
Any suggestions will be more than welcomem as this method of making boxes can be developed in so many ways and designs,
So my thanks in advance. Oh by the way, the only real fault I hae with the FX is that with only 3 in of Z travel there is no way I can fit a dust shoe. Before I got into this I did not realise that so much dust and chippings could fly out of the machine during even a .25 End Mill at even slow speeds. I had to stand there and keep the Shopvac doing its best to keep up. Mask and Ear Defenders worn at all times. I had also built a high walled enclosure round it on three sides to try and keep the rest of the shop as clear as possible. My shed is a 10ft by 8 ft wooden one so space is at a premium, unlike those many huge rooms we see on Youtube.
